Sioux Falls Student Julia Lair Receives Offer of Appointment to U.S. Naval Academy

Lair was nominated to the Naval Academy by Sen. Rounds

WASHINGTON—U.S. Sen. Mike Rounds (R-S.D.) today announced that Lincoln High School graduate Julia Lair has received a fully qualified offer of appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy. Lair is the daughter of Gregory and Jill Lair of Sioux Falls. She was nominated to the Naval Academy by Rounds.

“Congratulations to Julia on her offer of appointment to the Naval Academy,” said Rounds. “Even though she has just graduated from high school, she has already accomplished so much. As a Civil Air Patrol Cadet Commander, Julia has leadership experience that will serve her well at the Naval Academy. I wish her all the best as she begins this next chapter!”

"I'm honored to have received an appointment to the United States Naval Academy and am grateful for a nomination from Senator Rounds,” said Lair. “It has been my goal to serve my country as an Officer in the U.S. Armed Forces and serve alongside like-minded and driven individuals. I am thankful to be given an opportunity to challenge myself on many levels in pursuit of becoming a better person, leader and Officer in the United States Navy."

Each year, Sen. Rounds is able to nominate a select group of eligible students from South Dakota to attend our nation’s four service academies: The U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, U.S. Military Academy at West Point and the U.S. Naval Academy.
