Brookings High School Student Receives Fully Qualified Offer of Appointment to U.S. Naval Academy

Ellie Abraham was nominated to the Naval Academy by Sen. Rounds

WASHINGTON—U.S. Sen. Mike Rounds (R-S.D.) today announced that Brookings High School student Ellie Abraham has received a fully qualified offer of appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA). Ellie is the daughter of Ross and Julie Abraham of Brookings, SD.

“Congratulations to Ellie on her offer of appointment to the Naval Academy,” said Rounds. “Ellie seeks out challenges and always strives for excellence. She works hard at school, and is active in track, soccer and band. She also spends time volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels and Harvest Table. She’s a great fit for the Naval Academy, and we wish her all the best.”

“Attending the United States Naval Academy has been the primary goal in my life for the last five years, so I am extremely honored to have received an appointment,” said Abraham. “I can't wait to challenge myself academically, mentally, and physically alongside like-minded midshipmen, and to develop as a leader as I train to become an officer in the Navy or Marine Corps. I am also excited to have the opportunity to run Division I cross country and track for Navy.”

Each year, Sen. Rounds is able to nominate a select group of eligible students from South Dakota to attend our nation’s four service academies: The U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, U.S. Military Academy at West Point and the U.S. Naval Academy.
