Agriculture is one of South Dakota’s greatest economic engines. Our farmers and ranchers have an important part in feeding and fueling South Dakota and the rest of the world’s growing population.
One of my greatest priorities in the Senate is working to protect our farmers and ranchers from overregulation, making certain they’re able to do their jobs and take care of their land free from the heavy hand of the government. I’m committed to protecting our farmland from foreign threats, including the purchase of land and agriculture businesses from foreign nations that wish to do us harm, like China and Russia.
We recently restored integrity to the ‘Product of the USA’ label on our meat, poultry and egg products. While we acknowledge the magnitude of the USDA ruling, there is still more work to be done. We need to address meat packer concentration and Mandatory Country of Origin Labeling for beef in order to restore transparency and fairness to the cattle market. The work is just beginning, and I remain committed to fighting for American ranchers and consumers.
